Health & Safety Specialist (6/24/08)

GES seeks a Fort Lauderdale, Florida based Corporate Health & Safety Specialist to support our southern offices and International Programs by training employees on GES’ HSSE and behavior based safety programs.

Our successful candidate will also be involved with reviewing current programs and assisting in developing new programs and guidance. This position requires at least 25-50% travel to local offices and to countries in Central America and the Caribbean.

Responsibilities:

Provide Loss Prevention System (LPS) training to office staff and subcontractors
Schedule & provide required training sessions, in conjunction with GES Corporate Director and local HSSE Officers, such as: 8 Hour Refresher, OSHA Supervisory Training, CPR, First Aid and Defensive Driving training modules.
Assist local HSSE Officers in follow-up/investigation of accidents/injuries.
Assist local HSSE Officers in scheduling new employees for medical surveillance, training, etc.
Develop and/or assist offices in the development of Site Specific Health & Safety plans.

Requirements:

4-7+ years of related experience, preferably in the environmental consulting field
A degree in Safety, Environmental Health, or a related degree
Experience in HSSE programs is preferred.
Knowledge of LPS and/or LPS trainer certification is a plus
Associate Safety Professional Certification is preferred
Must possess excellent communication, facilitation, and time management

Environmental Health & Safety Engineer (4/15/08)

Salary: 65,000-68,000 annually

Summary Description: Environmental, Health and Safety classifications that do not meet criteria for the other subfamilies, or have supervisory/management responsibilities over more than one functional area in this job family, or over the entire job family. Interprets, recommends, and complies with environmental, health and safety regulations and/or company policies. Assists in planning for changes in physical facilities to meet new environmental requirements. Finds, evaluates, and prepares contracts for properly licensed hazardous and radioactive waste disposal firms and monitors waste handling. Organizes and equips spill-control teams. Writes and updates environmental and spill-control manuals and procedures. Prepares environmental impact statements and applies for all new permits and renewals. Provides input to federal and state regulators through trade associations and industry groups for the writing and revision of regulations.

Specific Responsibilities: Responsible for managing environmental/safety & health programs for the Stuart facility to maintain compliance with federal, state & local regulatory requirements. Applicant must have knowledge and experience in managing and implementing; occupational safety, industrial hygiene, hazardous materials management, air and stormwater permits and plans and injury/incident prevention programs. Interfacing with regulatory agencies, briefing site management, providing requisite training to employees and leading ES&H work groups are key elements of the position. Computer literacy in word processing, spreadsheets and database is required.

Qualifications: Qualified candidates will have at least 7 years experience working in a manufacturing environment. Minimum education requirements: BA/BS in Environmental & Occupational Health, safety engineering, public health, industrial hygiene or related field. Must hold a current HAZWOPER certification. Professional certificates are preferred, CSP/CIH/CHMM.

Safety & Environmental Health Position (3/28/08)

Senior Safety & Health Specialist (3/24/08)

Broward County Board of County Commissioners’ Risk Management Division in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida is seeking an experienced Senior Safety and Health Specialist to join our team. This is advanced field and technical work in occupational health and safety for the Risk Management Division. Work involves assisting management in identifying and evaluating workplace hazards in County operations and specifically the Fort Lauderdale Airport and Port Everglades operations. This will consist of conducting audits to determine compliance status with County and regulatory agencies, writing detailed reports of finding and tracking to completion corrective actions.

Broward County’s Risk Management Division (RMD serves as the “insurance company” for Broward County and is responsible for the administration of the County’s insurance program. This includes implementing insurance coverage programs for all departments, divisions, and agencies of county government. The division also manages a loss prevention program, including occupational safety, processing claims, and maintaining the County’s insurance records (except for group employee health benefits). The mission of the Risk Management Division is to continuously develop, manage, and improve insurance and safety/occupational health services in order to provide quality, cost-effective support to our customers and to protect the County’s financial well being. The division is headquartered in downtown Fort Lauderdale, which offers staff a superior urban work environment.

Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with major course work in the physical or biological sciences, engineering or related field; a minimum of six (6) years experience in evaluating and controlling occupational hazards. Relevant certification or license a plus.
