Provides input to federal and state regulators through trade associations and industry groups for the writing and revision of regulations.
Specific Responsibilities: Responsible for managing environmental/safety & health programs for the Stuart facility to maintain compliance with federal, state & local regulatory requirements. Applicant must have knowledge and experience in managing and implementing; occupational safety, industrial hygiene, hazardous materials management, air and stormwater permits and plans and injury/incident prevention programs. Interfacing with regulatory agencies, briefing site management, providing requisite training to employees and leading ES&H work groups are key elements of the position. Computer literacy in word processing, spreadsheets and database is required.
Qualifications: Qualified candidates will have at least 7 years experience working in a manufacturing environment. Minimum education requirements: BA/BS in Environmental & Occupational Health, safety engineering, public health, industrial hygiene or related field. Must hold a current HAZWOPER certification. Professional certificates are preferred, CSP/CIH/CHMM.

Broward County Board of County Commissioners’ Risk Management Division in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida is seeking an experienced Senior Safety and Health Specialist to join our team. This is advanced field and technical work in occupational health and safety for the Risk Management Division. Work involves assisting management in identifying and evaluating workplace hazards in County operations and specifically the Fort Lauderdale Airport and Port Everglades operations. This will consist of conducting audits to determine compliance status with County and regulatory agencies, writing detailed reports of finding and tracking to completion corrective actions.
Broward County’s Risk Management Division (RMD serves as the “insurance company” for Broward County and is responsible for the administration of the County’s insurance program. This includes implementing insurance coverage programs for all departments, divisions, and agencies of county government. The division also manages a loss prevention program, including occupational safety, processing claims, and maintaining the County’s insurance records (except for group employee health benefits). The mission of the Risk Management Division is to continuously develop, manage, and improve insurance and safety/occupational health services in order to provide quality, cost-effective support to our customers and to protect the County’s financial well being. The division is headquartered in downtown Fort Lauderdale, which offers staff a superior urban work environment.
Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with major course work in the physical or biological sciences, engineering or related field; a minimum of six (6) years experience in evaluating and controlling occupational hazards.
